Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba’s Labour Party has set February 15 as the deadline for all aspirants who intend to vie on the party’s ticket to submit their application forms.
Ababu who is the Labour Party Leader said they will field candidates for various positions across the country in the coming August 8, General Election.
He also noted that the party which branded last year will after the February 15 announce if they will field a presidential candidate or which political formation they will support for presidency.
He denied claims that Labour Party will be supporting the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta who is seeking a second term in the August polls.
“We have finally started accepting expression of interests from aspirants who want to fly the Labour flag. We will, at the close of the submission deadline, see if we have a presidential candidate and if we do not we will announce which political side we will support in the polls,” said Ababu.
According to guidelines issued by Labour Secretary General David Makali, those aspiring to run for president will pay a fee of Sh 1 million, governors Sh 300,000, , Women Representatives and members of National Assembly Sh100,000, Senate Sh 150,000 and County Assembly positions will pay Sh 25,000 to the party before they are allowed to participate in the primaries.
The party had a relief for special interest groups including youths and people with disabilities who will Sh 100,000 for senate, Governor Sh 200,000, National Assembly members and Women Representatives Sh75,000 while MCAs will pay Sh 15,000.
The Budalangi legislator was speaking yesterday after receiving into the party Mohamed Abdullahi who will challenge National Assembly majority Leader Aden Duale for the Garissa Township parliamentary seat.
