An officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations feared to be leading a criminal syndicate and who is on bail over an active robbery case was arrested in a botched kidnap for ransom attempt and detained at Ruiru Police Station.
Kelvin Ndosi and three other accomplices is accused of kidnapping Ochieng Okelo at Athi River, Delta Petrol Station.
They forced him into his vehicle and proceeded to Kayole area.
Okelo’s wife reported demand for Sh300, 000 ransom at Mama Lucy AP Camp who circulated the distress alert to their colleagues.
A police dragnet trailed the suspects to Eastern Bypass where Ndosi and an accomplice identified as Michael Ochieng were arrested.
Ndosi was in possession of a pocket phone.
Two other suspects believed to be police officers attached to Nairobi Area also escaped.
Flying Squad detectives are investigating if the escape vehicle used belongs to the police.
“Ndosi and Ochieng are in custody at Ruiru Police Station. A pocket phone and the victims vehicle are exhibits in our custody.” One of the officers said.
A fortnight ago, Ndosi was arrested in connection to stealing and extortion of Sh800,000 against a Malian national in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
He is accused of raiding Bathily Abdoulaye house in company of four other police officers and stole Sh8000 US Dollars and other valuables.
The other officer is attached to Nairobi region CID offices.
They were arrested by Flying Squad detectives and are being interrogated before being taken to court.
Mazingira House headed by DCI George Kinoti described Ndosi and his counterpart as being part of “rogue officers” who demanded for a bribe.
The officers stormed Baathily residence under unclear circumstances mid last weekend and arrested him.
They identified themselves as CID offices from Nairobi Area.
“In the process of the arrest the officers ransacked his house and took the following items: 8,000 US Dollars, Ksh.83, 000, 3 Rolex watches each valued at 15,000 US Dollars, his passport and also transferred Ksh.30, 000 from his Mobile phone number to another Mobile phone number.” Preliminary police findings report say in part.
Consequently, Bathily made an official complaint over the matter prompting officers to conduct probe.
The officers solicited for another Sh800, 000 bribe which he told them he would give them at an agreed location within Nairobi’s Yaya area.
Flying Squad officers raid an ambush at Yaya Centre Mall where one suspect identified as Moses Njogu Njagi was arrested.
He was in possession of Bathily passport.
